About

Mike hard at work

Originally from central New York, I graduated from Loyola College in Montreal, Quebec. In 1972, I moved to the Washington, DC area, where I completed a 28-year career in federal law enforcement. My wife Peggy and I have three grown children. Although I retired from a full time federal career, I work part-time as a contractor for the government.

I have always enjoyed art and drawing, but rarely had the time needed to develop the additional media skills. It was almost by accident that I discovered watercolor, after taking some evening classes from a talented local artist.

The properties and techniques that make watercolor so simple, yet difficult to master, intrigue me. While I often paint in a detailed style, I do explore an abstract style and work in mixed media. I am mostly self-taught, but continue to enjoy workshops to broaden and enhance my understanding of watercolor.

I have exhibited my work throughout Northern Virginia and have won awards in local juried exhibits. Proudly, my artwork has made its way into private collections in several east coast states.

I have taught watercolor workshops to local groups. If you are interested in one or two-day workshop sessions, then contact me by email or telephone (703) 887-1459.
