I enjoy painting pieces that depict our national sport and my enjoyment of the game. I’ve done a few baseball theme pieces and this is one where the “national” is depicted by the red, white and blue. The “pastime” is old, like this glove and reflects the game with us for so many years. (14 x 18 image - watercolor).

We took a drive into the country and passed through Rectortown, VA, off Rt. 66 west. This was Union headquarters for awhile of General George McClellan and later Confederate Colonel Mosby. A stone building that still stands here was used as a federal prison. A creek passes through town and it is depicted here ( 11 x 15 watercolor). I hope to paint a picture of the structure used as a prison during the war for a later Civil War exhibit.

Watercolor 15 x 21 Two weeks ago we had Second Saturday reception and exhibit at the Workhouse, Lorton, VA and I started a demo of this one. I finished it at home. I think it should be titled “Two Retired” because I was with friends, who are, and they inspired me that night.

I’ve been working “off and on” with acrylic on canvas. I like the ability to easily move the paint and color, and change composition. Also the texture is there to make changes and add interest. Here is an example: 8 x 10 canvas, using Liquitex Heavy Body acrylics. The photo used was from our travel years ago to Ireland. We stayed in a thatched cottage (with all the creature comforts) not far from the bridge. The movie “Quiet Man Bridge” with John Wayne and Maureen “O’Hare was filmed here!

Watercolor (22 x 28). I enjoy painting people from our musical past, especially those whose tunes are classics. Elton John has many great hits. His youthful image was especially fun to recreate!

Watercolor 22″ x 28″. The building colors and canals make for many exciting opportunities to capture Venice! My plan is to create new works of the Italian countryside and hope to travel there some day.

Watercolor 22 x 28. We enjoy fantastic visual memories of the Canada /Maine trip in 2009. I decided to paint a scene which has components of what we saw traveling through the Acadia National Park. An artist would never run short of scenes to paint from this park.

(Watercolor 10 x 13 image) I found several old club photos and madeup a composition that included an old golf bag. This is the type of set of clubs a starting golfer (say a teenager with hand-me-downs) might play. No two alike in the “set”!

(18 x 24 watercolor) I had a request to paint a Kenny Rogers portrait and decided to use an older photograph. The white suit was a nice foil to his tanned and rugged features and so I went with it. I think it came out pretty well!

We had a wonderful fall trip to Tennessee and another national park. Loads of streams and views to paint, such as this one!
